It’s pride weekend in Vancouver,

and SALCBC stands with SHER Vancouver and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities as an Ally organization and a friend.

Pride is born out of protest and while Canada has made significant strides in advancing legal rights for our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, there is still a lot more work to be done to achieve inclusivity and equality within the South Asian Diaspora for our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, both in Canada and internationally.

Despite many South Asian and other countries informally recognizing a third gender, many 2SLGBTQIA+ South Asians still face discrimination. In most South Asian Diasporic countries, there is a lack of protections available for transgender individuals and same sex marriages are still illegal.

At SALCBC, we celebrate Pride, and alongside our allies, strive to create more inclusive, safe spaces for our South Asian and mainstream 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Remember, none of us is free, until everyone is free.
